Dubai International (DXB) and Abu Dhabi International (AUH) are the main gateways. Dubai is easier for first-time visitors with more direct routes globally.
Dubai Metro is excellent and cheap. Taxis and Careem/Uber are widely available. Abu Dhabi is best explored by car or taxi โ limited public transport between cities.
Modest dress required in malls, souks, and mosques โ shoulders and knees covered. No public displays of affection. Alcohol available in licensed hotel venues only, never in public. Ramadan significantly changes operating hours โ be respectful of daytime fasting. Friday is the holy day; government offices have reduced hours.

King Khalid International (RUH) in Riyadh and King Abdulaziz International (JED) in Jeddah are the main hubs. AlUla has its own regional airport (ULH) served by Saudia and Fly nas.
Makkah and Madinah are accessible to Muslims only โ checkpoints on approach roads enforce this. Alcohol is completely prohibited throughout the country. Photography of government/military buildings is strictly prohibited.
Saudi Arabia has modernised rapidly โ women no longer need an abaya, but modest dress is strongly recommended. Mixed-gender socialising is now permitted in most public spaces. The weekend is FridayโSaturday. English is spoken in hotels and tourist areas. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory.
Apply at evisa.gov.tr โ under 3 minutes, typically instant approval. 90 days within any 180-day period. Cost: $50โ75 USD depending on nationality. Some EU nationals (Germany, France) enter visa-free with national ID.
Istanbul Airport (IST) is one of Europe's busiest hubs. Sabiha Gรถkรงen (SAW) serves budget airlines. Antalya (AYT), Ankara (ESB), and Bodrum (BJV) also have international connections.
Turkish Lira (TRY). Excellent value โ a good restaurant meal costs $5โ10 USD. Cash is widely used outside Istanbul. ATMs everywhere. Turkey is currently one of the best-value destinations in the region.
Turkey is secular but deeply Islamic in culture. Remove shoes before entering mosques; head coverings available at entrances. Avoid visiting mosques during prayer times. Bargaining is expected in the Grand Bazaar. Tea (รงay) is offered everywhere โ accepting is polite. Explore both sides of Istanbul โ the European and Asian shores have very different characters.

Kuala Lumpur International (KLIA/KUL) is the main hub. KLIA2 handles AirAsia and budget carriers. Penang (PEN) and Kota Kinabalu (BKI) receive some international flights.
Excellent public transport in KL โ MRT, LRT, monorail. Grab (rideshare) is cheap and reliable everywhere. The country is very well set up for independent travel.

Ngurah Rai (DPS) in Bali and Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) in Jakarta are the main international airports. Lombok (LOP) and Yogyakarta (YIA) have some international connections.
17,000+ islands. Domestic flights with Lion Air, Garuda, and Citilink are cheap. Fast boats connect Bali, Lombok, and the Gili Islands. Book ahead during peak season (JulyโAugust).
Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim-majority country, but Bali is Hindu โ each island has its own culture. Dress modestly outside Bali's resort zones. Remove shoes before mosques and temples. Use the right hand for greetings and transactions โ the left is considered unclean. Bargaining is standard in markets.

Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) in Amman is the main hub. Note: the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge crossing from Israel does not offer visa-on-arrival โ arrange in advance.
JETT buses connect major destinations. Careem and taxis work well in Amman. Renting a car is strongly recommended for Wadi Rum and the scenic King's Highway route.
Jordan is one of the region's safest and most welcoming countries for all visitors. Jordanian hospitality (karam) is legendary โ expect tea and conversation everywhere. Dress modestly outside hotels. The Dead Sea is unmissable โ bring flip flops and don't shave 24 hours before swimming (the salt stings). Women travelling alone are generally safe.
Apply at evisa.rop.gov.om โ processing 24โ48 hours. Standard tourist visa ~$20 USD, valid 30 days, extendable for 30 more. A 10-day visa is also available (~$13 USD). GCC nationals and some Arab country citizens enter without a visa.
Muscat International Airport (MCT) is the main gateway. Salalah Airport (SLL) has Gulf and regional connections โ ideal for the Dhofar/Khareef region (JuneโSeptember monsoon season).
Oman is best explored by car โ roads are excellent. International driving licence required. Fuel is very cheap. A 4WD is needed for Wahiba Sands and some Jebel Akhdar routes.
Oman is the Gulf's most peaceful and authentic destination. Omani hospitality is extraordinary โ being invited for coffee and dates by strangers is common. Dress modestly, especially inland. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat welcomes non-Muslim visitors in the morning โ one of the world's most beautiful mosques. Alcohol is available in licensed hotel restaurants.

Mohammed V International (CMN) in Casablanca is the main hub. Marrakech Menara (RAK) and Fes-Saรฏss (FEZ) receive many direct European flights. Ferries from Spain (Algeciras to Tanger Med) are a scenic option.
ONCF trains connect Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, and Marrakech efficiently. CTM buses cover all cities. Petit taxis are cheap โ always agree fare first. Riads are the most authentic accommodation choice.
Bargaining in souks is expected โ start at 30โ40% of the asking price. French is widely spoken alongside Darija (Moroccan Arabic). Dress modestly in medinas and religious sites. The medinas of Fes and Marrakech are UNESCO-listed labyrinths โ a local guide for your first visit is worth it. Ramadan dramatically transforms the country โ night markets come alive after iftar.
Visa-on-arrival ($25 USD cash) at Cairo, Luxor, and Sharm el-Sheikh airports, or eVisa online at visa2egypt.gov.eg (same cost, recommended to avoid queues). Both valid 30 days single-entry. Multiple-entry: $60 USD online.
Cairo International (CAI) is the main hub. Hurghada (HRG) and Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH) receive many direct European charter flights. Luxor (LXR) is convenient for Upper Egypt temples.
A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan (4โ7 nights) is one of the world's great travel experiences. Book ahead for NovemberโMarch peak season. Multiple temple stops with no packing/unpacking.
Tourist areas are well set up for all visitors. Islamic Cairo rewards modest dress and respectful behaviour. Tipping (baksheesh) is deeply embedded โ carry small bills (EGP 5โ20). Haggling is expected in markets. Photography inside temples may incur extra fees. Female travellers may face attention in busy areas โ firm but polite responses work best.

Doha Metro is modern and covers the main tourist areas. Taxis and Karwa are widely available. Uber operates in Qatar. Most sites are within 30โ45 minutes of the city centre.
Qatar is fully halal โ alcohol only in licensed hotel venues, never sold publicly. Modest dress appreciated outside hotels and beach resorts. Extremely safe with virtually no petty crime. Souq Waqif is a fantastic authentic market experience. The Museum of Islamic Art is world-class and free to enter. Photography in public spaces is generally fine.
EU, UK, USA, Canada, Australia and most Western passports enter visa-free for 90 days. Bosnia is not in the Schengen zone โ your Schengen allowance does not apply here, it's a separate 90-day count. Some non-Western nationalities require a visa.
Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ) with European hub connections. Many visitors enter overland from Croatia (DubrovnikโMostar is a popular route) or Serbia. Border crossings are generally smooth.

Bosnia has 500 years of Ottoman Islamic heritage โ one of Europe's most unique Muslim-majority destinations. Sarajevo's Baลกฤarลกija bazaar is a living Ottoman market. The Stari Most bridge in Mostar is UNESCO-listed. The country is still healing from the 1990s war โ understanding this history deepens the visit. Bosnian coffee (dลพezva with sugar cube) is a cultural ritual โ take your time with it.

Tirana International Airport (TIA) with growing European connections. Ferry routes from Italy (Bari/Ancona to Durrรซs) are scenic. Overland entry from North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Greece is common.
Furgons (shared minibuses) are the main inter-city transport โ very cheap. Taxis affordable but agree price first. Albanian Riviera is best by car โ roads can be challenging in rural areas.
Albania has a long tradition of religious tolerance โ mosques, Orthodox churches, and Catholic cathedrals coexist peacefully. Head shaking means "yes" and nodding means "no" โ the opposite of most cultures. Berat and Gjirokastรซr are UNESCO-listed Ottoman towns. The Albanian Riviera offers some of the Mediterranean's most unspoiled beaches. Excellent value โ โฌ15โ25/night for good accommodation.

Tashkent International (TAS) is the main hub. Samarkand (SKD) and Bukhara (BHK) airports have some regional connections. flydubai and Turkish Airlines have good routes.
Afrosiyob high-speed train connects Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara โ fast, modern, ~$10โ15 USD one-way. Shared taxis cover shorter routes. Khiva requires a transfer from Urgench.
Uzbekistan sits on the ancient Silk Road โ Samarkand's Registan, Bukhara's walled city, and Khiva's Ichan Kala are among the Islamic world's greatest architectural treasures. Cash-dominant economy โ bring USD to exchange. Uzbek hospitality is exceptional; accepting tea or food is considered polite. Photography widely welcomed but ask for permission with people.
Apply via the ASAN Visa system at evisa.gov.az โ typically 3 business days, ~$23 USD for 30-day single entry. 90-day multi-entry also available (~$50). Citizens of Russia, Georgia, Turkey, and most GCC states enter visa-free.
Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku is the only significant international gateway. Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), flydubai, Turkish Airlines, and Emirates all serve Baku.
The Nagorno-Karabakh region is not currently open to tourism. Travellers who have previously visited Armenia may face additional scrutiny at Azerbaijani border control.
Baku is a stunning contrast โ ultra-modern Flame Towers and Heydar Aliyev Centre alongside the UNESCO-listed medieval Icherisheher walled city. English spoken in central Baku hotels and restaurants; Russian is more useful outside the capital. Officially secular but culturally Muslim โ alcohol available. Gobustan's mud volcanoes and ancient petroglyphs make a unique half-day trip.

Tunis-Carthage International (TUN) is the main hub. Djerba-Zarzis (DJE) receives direct European charter and scheduled flights โ ideal for beach holidays. Enfidha-Hammamet (NBE) serves the resort area.
SNCFT rail connects Tunis, Sfax, and Sousse. Louages (shared taxis) are the fastest inter-city option and very affordable. Renting a car is recommended for the south โ Saharan landscapes around Douz and Tozeur are spectacular.
Tunisia is one of the Arab world's most liberal countries โ women don't need to cover their heads and alcohol is widely available. French is widely spoken alongside Arabic. Sidi Bou Said's blue-and-white clifftop village is one of the Mediterranean's most photogenic spots. The ancient ruins of Carthage are 20 minutes from central Tunis. Medina of Tunis is UNESCO-listed. Tipping 10% is appreciated. Sahara tours from Douz are an unforgettable experience.
